Mekusukey Oil Company was founded in 1970 by Duke R. Ligon with the primary purpose of building a portfolio of mineral interests across the United States. Today, Mekusukey is one of the largest private mineral owners in the United States, upholding its primary purpose of acquiring and managing, not selling, perpetual mineral interests. Mekusukey owns approximately 100,000 net mineral acres under approximately 2.3 million gross acres, spanning 25 states and more than 450 counties. In addition to its portfolio of mineral interests, Mekusukey owns a comparatively small amount of non-participating, overriding royalty, and working interests. Mekusukey is proud of its inventory and does not intend to sell any of its assets.
